Upon my return from New Mexico, I am reminded of this beautiful couple I had the pleasure of photographing a few months ago. Do you believe in fate? I do! I believe everything happens for a reason and that people cross paths in unusual ways just to show how small the world really is. When D + P and I first started communicating, they had mentioned something about NM jerky. My spidey senses immediately started to tingle. At our pre-session consultation, I asked them if they were talking about New Mexico. They told me they were, and that they were originally from there just like I am! We began reminiscing about our roots and the things we loved about our home state. It blew my mind that we were sitting here on the island of Guam sipping coffee, enjoying each others company, planning an epic photography session, and feeling at home.
D + P are so amazing! Not only are they from the Land of Enchantment (5 OH 5!), they really trusted me to capture this moment for them. They have been married almost 30 years and were about to embark on a new journey overseas. They wanted to capture the love they have for each other and their love for Guam. Two of my favorite things! When we started their session, their love was undeniable. They kept getting lost in themselves, their conversation, and each others eyes. It is every photographers dream to capture real emotion and the natural love between a couple. It is something I constantly to create in my sessions. Every prompt and question took them back into themselves and their relationship. They often forgot I was there, simply because they were so connected.
At our last meeting to deliver their prints and say our good-byes before they embarked on their trip, I asked them if they chose me because of New Mexico. They said that they simply saw my name on a list of photographers and decided to reach out to me because of my name. Now if that isn't fate, I’m not sure what is. Our cultural connection, our love for Guam, and my passion to capture raw and natural relationships, all based on someone tagging my name. I am so glad I got to connect with these two and I will forever be honored that their future generations will see the love that they continue to share after 30 years.
